Surveys & Valuations

Stewarts provides several types of residential surveys and valuations, including:
  • Homebuyer Survey & Valuation (HSV) An 'in-depth' inspection normally taking at least two hours producing a detailed report commenting on the value, condition and many other aspects of the property.
Properties older than 100 years, or of non-traditional construction, may not be suitable for the HSV, but we can refer you to a specialist surveyor.

  • Valuation for purchase A less-detailed inspection than the HSV usually taking about an hour which results in a shorter report giving an opinion of value and commenting on obvious major defects in the property. It is similar to a bank or building society valuation, but is written for you, the purchaser, with your needs in mind.
Properties older than 30 years are not suitable for valuation for purchase.

  • Valuation for legal purposes A brief inspection and valuation which results in an even shorter report giving an opinion of value and commenting on obvious major defects in the property. This type of report is often needed for matrimonial, probate, inheritance tax or similar reasons.

  • Valuation for building insurance The buildings insurance or reinstatement figure is based on the cost of rebuilding your home, NOT its market value. It is closely related to the floor area, age, and quality of construction of your home. You might need this valuation if your home has been recently altered or extended, or has not be reassessed for some years.
